Turkish media is like the youngest child of the family who imitates the older brother . This child wants to do something on his own ,but he needs more help and the others know much more. Turkey started to open to the world and see what is happening in the world after Özal’s presidence ,so that Turkish media catched the others lately same as the other things.

What are  the consequences of being such late ? ;Firstly the channels which belong to the companies were brand new and walking with small steps when the international channels such as 75 year old BBC started to run. What we do now is copying from the world , actually just from the America. Reality shows such as American Idol , So You Think You Can Dance or the competition Who Wants To Be A Millionaire were broadcasted in Turkish channels with their Turkish versions . There are of course some domestic programmes which are %100 original and successful ,but not enough. The situation isn’t different in the press ,we are reading magazines such as Instyle , Madame Figaro translated into turkish . How could this be expected to be successful without producing more and more ?

To be honest Turkish media is also lack of instructive or informative sides . We are entertained ,but isn’t that a little waste of time ? Whenever i watch BBC or RTL , i see how the qualitative media must be. I repeat myself that there are some amazing and very classy programmes such as Şeffaf Oda by Güneri Civaoğlu on the Channel D  , but not enough . Companies should leave  the rating and financial worries and do some real work , since the media is an efficient way to inform and lighten the people.

The child should be grown up  and learn much more from the big brothers…

As a normal kid i was a fan of cartoons ,especially my favourite one was Ninja Turtles accourding to my mother. She says that she could  go to work without making me cry just while i was watching them, so i was a kind of addicted. Since that what has been changed ? To be honest i am not a member of  conscious audience , but staying in the dormitory TV is unavailable for me , so i don’t spend time to watch .

One year ago i was watching many Turkish TV series and competitions  that was just waste of time. Many of them have nothing to do with real life or nothing useful. The theme is usually almost same and nothing interesting ,however they keep on being broadcasted for a long time . In case of unsuccess the owner of the channel  decides to stop broadcasting . It is all just financial worries. We TV audience  are just looking for entertainment .

What about newspapers? I have never read a newspaper regularly every morning or every week ? When it comes to my mind , i buy it and read it . What was my excuse to use the media so unprofitably  ? I think that i am bussy enough with boring anjd stressful things ,so i look for entertaining programmes.

Although media is seen as just an entertainment device , it is a way for people to communicate , which enables masses being informed about what is happening. Its main target should to provide massive communication and education ,after that it could also entertain the people ,because it is a need for everyone .

FAMILY FILM ANALYSIS : LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE

In family fim ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ a crowded and lovely family is presented which includes mother ,her brother; father , grandfather, a little girl and a boy . The film begins with the scene that Sheryl ( mother ) takes her homosexual brother out of the hospital and brings him to home. Then other members of the come home for dinner while the girl watching the Little Miss Sunhine on TV ,which is the centre theme of the film and a competition to find out the most talented and beautiful girl.

The family consists of six people who are very different and kind of freaky people. The father is portrayed as a man who isn’t successful at his job . Presented grandfather is a drug-addicted person ,who mostly takes care of the little girl. Probably the most interesting character in the film is the teenager boy Dwayne who is a supporter and a fan of Nietzche ,that’s why rejects to talk to no one. 7 year old girl ,Olive , desires to be one of the girls she saw on TV in the programme Little Miss Sunshine. The depressive brother of the mother is a homosexual who attempt to commit a suicide because of breaking up with his boy friend . All these family members with different problems come together for a common purpose : To win the competition.

In the film the marriage stands for the idea that being married to a person is accepting him or her in any conditions whether he or she is successful or not. The given message is the partners must be supportives and always be there for each other .

There are conflicts between members of the family. For instance drug-addicted grand father and the job obsessiv groom are two opposite character . The grandfather is a type of man who is marginal and doesn’t have a look as a typical old man ,on the other hand the groom is a very ordinary type who wants to be successful at his job. This opposition is creating the atmosphere ,that in the film is wanted to be given. They are members of a family ,who love each other and have strong relationship.

Sometimes it is better not to know everything .If you can listen to millionaires as Irene listens to people who suffer from several reasons , you could be jealous , probably. Let’s imagine. Women who wear thousand dollar Gucci dresses drink their coctails talking to friends about how wonderful their vacation was in Miami . Or would you like to listen an orphan praying god to see his or her mother just once ?

Let’s say we heard what is spoken and done ,then what ?Could you rewind the time ? Irene hears  a woman being hurt  by her husband. What does she got to do ?It is certainly to hard to pretend not to have heard them and that is worse not to know .

Not listening to them doesn’t mean ignoring them. All of us have to be sensitive about the problems of others , because there is always time for everyone to need help .Cooperation is the first necessacity of a society to be a society. Maybe in that situation Irene could be more interested in her neighbours and ask how they feel today or if it is there anything to be needed for her help ,they can come . Sometimes even greeting or smiling can be enough ,because everyone likes knowing not to be alone.

Family is the smallest group of the people that are related to each other and constitute society. In this group it can be seen how the members make things work out ,that resembles  a small state. There is a budget which balances outgoings and incomes. There are rules which should be obeyed , otherwise  penalties are needed . There are some rulers ,who are sometimes mother and father ,but sometimes just father as a monarc.

Why do families exist in society ?Why don’t people hang out as individuals ?

The answer is simple, actually. Look at the picture . President rules country, mayor rules cities and mostly the father rules family. Families are the smallest group which are manageable ,that is to say controllable .That is a tree and each family is a brunch of the tree, which makes it easier for the state.Besides these small units provide more than that such as productivity , procreation ,morality or order in the country.Think of a country which is composed of unlimited free and single people .What a chaos would this be ? No one has to explain the acts , so they would do anything they want and there would be many throwaway children .

In the moral sense the children grow up in discipline and take their parents as models. When they became adults ,they do the same things as they have seen or they do better not making the mistakes they have seen.As the supporter of family David Blankenhorn (2007 ) said , Family is gift that is given a child and every child has right to be raised by parents being loved.

To sum it up families are needed in a society for a peaceful and healthy society which has order instead of chaos. Considering welfare of community and individuals people should know how important the families are and have families in which love ,wisdom and experience are shared .
